Mathematics Courses

MAT 100 - Pre-Algebra
A concrete approach to fundamental mathematics concepts and skills required in a technological society. The course includes topics in measurement, geometry, statistics and probability, and logic. Beginning algebraic concepts are explored. Problem solving skills are developed using various instructional techniques.

MAT 101 - Algebra I
A formal development of elementary algebraic skills and concepts. The course includes topics on the properties of real numbers, functions and relations, linear equations and inequalities, graphing, factoring, exponents, simple quadratic equations, solving word problems, and an introduction to right triangle trigonometry and statistical measures.

MAT 201 - Geometry
A formal development of geometric skills and concepts. The course includes the development of a set of postulates to support the proof of geometric theorems, perpendicularity, parallelism, congruence and similarity relationships in two and three dimensions; coordinate geometry; relationships in circles and polygons with algebraic applications; introduction to transfomational geometry; introduction to symbolic logic; locus, geometric constructions and introduction to trigonometric functions of angles greater than 90 degrees and special angle relationships.

MAT 301 - Algebra II
An extension of the mathematical content of Algebra I and Geometry. Abstract thinking skills, the function concept and the algebraic solution of problems are emphasized. The course includes solving quadratic equations, logarithmic and exponential functions, the binomial theorem, progressions and series, the complex number system, and further topics in trigonometry.

MAT 302 - Pre-Calculus
Pre-calculus concepts and skills, including development of trigonometric functions using the concept of circular functions, graphical methods, inverse trigonometric functions, trigonometric identities, radian measure, polar coordinates and vectors, applications in elementary physics, mathematical induction, conic sections, parametric equations and their graphs, three-dimensional coordinate geometry, and the concept of limit.

MAT 401 - Pre-College Math
A numerical approach to algebra and geometry designed to prepare students for college-level mathematics. Topics include quadratic equations/inequalities, linear equations in one and two variables, graphing, numerical geometry and trigonometry. Extensive use of scientific calculators.

MAT 402 - Business Math
A review of the fundamental mathematical concepts and skills with application to business and consumer problems. The course includes topics in budgeting, bank credit, accounting, insurance, discounts, introductory economics, and federal and state income tax preparation.

MAT 403 - Consumer Math
A review of basic mathematical concepts and skills needed to make wise consumer decisions. The course includes personal finance, banking, taxes, credit cards, housing and automobile purchases, as well as hobbies and recreation. Use of calculators, estimation and mental calculation are integral to the course.

NOTE: More advanced math courses are offered on a needs basis.
