SPA 101 - Spanish I
Spanish 1 is a one-year program in which students are provided with basic vocabulary, pronunciation and emphasis in listening and speaking skills. Enrichment and extension activities are provided to broaden the understanding of knowledge and culture, with emphasis placed on communication activities in dialogues, games and music. This is a proof-based course, which means that the students are expected to demonstrate knowledge at this particular level. Students are introduced to aspects of Latino/Chicano culture and customs through cassette tapes, videotapes and various communicative activities of knowledge application in real situation.SPA 201 - Spanish II
This is a continuing course for students who have completed the curriculum outlined in Spanish I. The course includes a deep review of grammar and sentence structure with an introduction focusing on basic, high frequency vocabulary and structures followed by idiomatic expressions. Further reading, translation, and writing exercises give students the background to develop oral skills needed in communication situations. In addition, students is provided with a study of verb tenses in the language that enables expanable conversations.SPA 301 - Spanish III
This course is offered to students who have completed two years of Spanish. Designed for college bound students, the course emphasizes the acquisition of a broad practical vocabulary and development of higher level proficiency in verbal and reading skills. Reading materials such as Spanish newspapers and Bible passages are studied, and the contextual language of daily situations is applied, so that students are allowed to work toward verbal development skills.
